Start with the instructions for that meal.

Prepared meals differ in ingredients, packaging and heating method. Review the current meal label and provider instructions. Do not assume a container is oven-safe or microwave-safe. Instructions from a previous So Cal Fresh order should not replace the instructions for a current MPK meal.

Use temperature as the safety check.

USDA advises reheating leftovers to 165°F, measured with a food thermometer. Stirring or rotating food can help it heat more evenly in a microwave. When reheating sauces, soups and gravies, USDA also advises bringing them to a rolling boil.

Handle storage as part of the plan.

Refrigerate promptly and follow the supplied use-by instructions. USDA’s general guidance says refrigerated leftovers are usually kept for 3–4 days; a meal’s specific instructions may be stricter. Freezing can help cover later meal occasions when the provider says the meal is suitable.

Ask when something is unclear.

For a current MPK meal, use MPK support to clarify packaging, heating or storage instructions. The weekly planning tool counts meal occasions; it does not verify the shelf life of a particular product.
